After hitting central Vietnam typhoon Rai weakens

Rai, the fourth storm formed in Vietnam’s East Sea this year, hit two regions early Tuesday before debilitating into a tropical depression with floods and landslides forecast in central Vietnam.


Strong breezes of up to 80kph swept through the Quang Nam and Quang Ngai regions since early morning, felling trees and damaging houses.

Heavy downpours started at around 11 p.m. on Monday have flooded numerous streets in Quang Nam and Da Nang, where all schools are closed on Tuesday.

In Da Nang, numerous constructions for the coming 2016 Asian Beach Games were destroyed.

No human fatality has been accounted for as of press time.

As indicated by the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, the tropical depression keeps on debilitating and moves into southern Laos on Tuesday.

Flooding is forecast in all streams in the central region with landslide threats in the Central Highlands, the agency said.
